What has been happening to our intelligent capacity to make sense of the world? I will argue in this chapter that it is in decline because we are increasingly wearing what James Flynn, one of the most famous living intelligence researchers, calls ‘scientific spectacles’. What this amounts to is that the right hemisphere understanding is being ‘elbowed’ out by the left hemisphere’s insistence that we see the world its way: even though this way is less intelligent.
